The Spirited Man is an unlimited series about the spirited man or woman who lives inside all of us (and fixing things).
ABOUT VAN NEISTAT:
A pioneer in digital filmmaking, Van Neistat made his first internet video, The Holland Tunnel, in 2000. He went on to collaborate with New York City artist Tom Sachs, directing a series of short films shown at the Guggenheim Museum in Berlin. Van has since directed dozens more films for the Tom Sachs Studio. In 2010 HBO aired The Neistat Brothers, an 8-episode series of short videos made entirely by Van and his brother Casey Neistat. Van Neistat’s directorial debut feature, A SPACE PROGRAM, co-written by Tom Sachs, premiered at the 2015 South by Southwest Film Festival and opened in theaters nation-wide in spring, 2016. In 2018 Neistat Directed the short film Paradox Bullets, co-written with Tom Sachs, narrated by Werner Herzog, and starring Ed Rushca. Neistat has written and directed commercial projects for Nike, Hurley, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, J. Crew, Twitter, Sleepy Jones and Frances Valentine. His work has been exhibited in museums throughout the world. He lives in Topanga, California.

Why drive old trucks: because half of the adventure in getting places, is wondering if you actually will.
When your engine gets so hot you should keep driving with the windows open and the heater full blast if it isn’t to hot outside. If it’s hot outside than you should take breaks.
Reminds me of my monthly drive over the Cascades on Hwy 20 in WA. 82 Diesel Rabbit Pickup would crawl 35-40 in the shoulder on the way up. All 52 horses lugging up the mountain. There's a certain flow state you settle into when you're moving slow, immersed in your surroundings and hyper-aware of all your rig's mechanical idiosyncrasies.
I live about 15 minutes away from the Land Cruiser museum and tomorrow morning I’ll be visiting for the first time. Thank you for making videos that inspire me to 1) get out and see the multitude of sights around me and 2) reignite my passion for my passions.

I bought my '89 fj62 from a kid in Montana and it had an Overland Cruisers sticker on it. I emailed them on an off chance they could give me some info on it and they sent back an entire history of my truck. Great respect for their work. My FJ is partly a symbol of not buying into the idea that cars are a service that you are beholden to the corporations for. It's mine free and clear. Nobody is going to turn off part of my car because I quit paying them. If it breaks, everything you need to fix it – parts, knowledge, help – is out there for you. Sure, it's work to keep it running well, but it's rewarding to me. And, damn, it's got great lines!
Loved being along for the ride on this road trip. Can't wait to see the Land Cruiser again when it's got a new engine.
FJ62 owner since 1994, added an FJ80 in 2017. Something about them resonate with me. Good thing I live where I don't need speed. Great story, I get it.
I drive a 1986 Land Rover Defender with an old 2.5 naturally aspirated diesel. I'm replacing the engine next week. Going this slow gives me headache and stress
