All right, i'm putting your pillow in with your um sleeping bag. Okay, the boy turns three in three weeks and he's finally old enough for a proper adventure where's that train going. Where are we going we're going to vegas and then we're going to utah all right? So you're going to blank them, but this video is not about adventure per se. It's about the puzzle of education in the contemporary age.
How do we do it? How many did you get? How do we educate these kids? This spirited man has always found it extremely difficult to learn things, especially things that he's not interested in to this day. He bears a grudge that at 14 years old he was expected to read great expectations: the scarlet letter, the odyssey and the crucible canterbury tales at 16 or 17 years old canterbury tales perfect for a 17 year old american boy, canterbury tales at 17 and yet not A single class or lesson about how to make money, yeah well, there's walls in there, so you can drink the milkshake. So this spirited man justified taking this expensive and time-consuming trip by considering the trip continued education, a continuation of learning, how to be a father by seeing how other fathers do it. We need good fathers, especially good fathers of sons, strong and brave this spirited man knows he must teach his boy to be strong and brave.
It may be the only thing he need to teach the boy maybe, but he has very little idea about how to teach the boy how to learn you ready about. The only thing this spirited man understands about learning is that it's much easier to learn something if the learning serves to help. You better understand a thing. You love.
Are you, okay, buddy? What happened see what he's doing so he's roughing up the hole. These boys are not only learning how to fix a flat they're learning that a flat can be fixed and, more importantly, that a flat can be fixed by them, and this spirited man is learning how good dad's dad remember the story of the kids trapped in the Cave the soccer players in thailand remember praying for them when you imagined yourself in that situation. Who were you? Did you imagine yourself, one of the kids or one of the adults trying to get them out at night and in the mornings we'd sit around the fire and talk about things, unimportant things and important things: we're from texas and los angeles in south carolina and tennessee, And new york city - and we all seem to agree that the tide was rising, the world was on fire and that the enemy was at the gates. It took nine hours for each of those boys to get out of that cave where they had been trapped for 17 days.
One man, petty officer, beirut, pakbara, died trying to save them. They opened the garage door. Ah, air conditioning all 12 of the boys survived along with their coach. They made it man and two weeks later, my son was born.
Do you know what they used to do in here? Yeah? They used to look for silver and gold. They used to look for silver. They used to look for gold.
I HAVE A SONE although I have never seen him.
You know the song "All that she wants is another baby, She's gone tomorrow, boy" YEP that happened to me. Ex GF came out to see me, got pregnant and got a flight out of here. Never seen her since. She kept emailing me updates, like that didn't rip my heart out, but never a location or an address. All she wanted was a baby. So forgive me for not watching the video…
Thanks for this one Van. My dad died last year and I think about him every day. He was definitely a spirited man in his own right without really knowing what that meant. I think I got my 'spiritedness' from him by just watching him and observing. Seeing how my dad reacted and handled situations taught me more than him sitting me down to 'teach' me ever could.
Wilderness Collective so amazing! Keep up the good work! I saw y'all had Martin as your guide. I can't say enough good things about him. I aspire to reach his level of chill, but at the same time control of any situation.
Van, your work is a treasure to behold in these times, and will be a true, honest look at the rigors of life in all aspects, for years to come. A role model for us fathers, creators, and doers who simply want to be useful to the world around us. Nearly 3 years ago my family and I came within seconds of losing our lives in the Camp Fire, and escape was not a given. Since that day it's been a mental struggle raising two children, one of which is a boy, in a world where every move and misstep is viewed with a critical eye, and a life sentence of condemnation for the mistake of making a mistake. Your voice sheds light on the reality of the unknown path we take as parents, men, and fathers, and how the only thing you can do is attempt to do your best. Please never stop.
I don't think the 3 yo boy is enjoying this 4×4 adult joy ride trip. The best way to raise brave daughters and sons – to my opinion – is try not to imprint childhood trauma while raising the kids and be present 24/7 in the early years of the childhood. THIS, this is tougher than touring a desert for some kind of "continued education" masqueraded as beneficial to a child who probably wouldn't opt unless dragged into it.
Excellent video, It made me remember doing all the random fun things with my dad as a young boy. I'm 23 now and my dad is about to turn 50 and the idea of a child is terrifying right now, but also an experience I wish to have.
Men teach by example but also by doing. I am sure your son will be a spirited man as well. As long as he finds his purpose along the way. What a great trip. Fixing that flat looked to be such a solid way to show how things work and how to handle situations.
Creative Critical Thinking, and Fearless Independent Thought. I came from a rough upbringing.. My Dad didn't know how to "dad", so I had to learn these skills myself the hard way!
I'm positive that if someone had tried to teach me about business instead of chaucer at 17 I wouldn't have given a shit about that either
my favorite video you have done yet. I know it's probably not your belief system but the book, raising passionate Jesus followers has some amazing tips for all ages of kids. I have learned a lot from that one
